Romero on exit talks, squad leaders and love for Corinthians

Romero left Corinthians on December 31st, after the contract ended. According to the player, the decision was made after the Copa do Brasil title celebration, along with Fabinho Soldado and Osmar Stabile, who decided not to renew the contract of the multi-champion.

“After the title celebration, I had a conversation with Fabinho and the president, and we thought it best to end the cycle. I am very grateful for everything I experienced at Corinthians, they were beautiful moments in my career. I arrived as a kid and I am leaving as a man, a family man”, the player said to Rádio Bandeirantes.

With the departure of the number 11, Corinthians loses one of the leaders of the squad, both on the field and in the locker room and training center. Despite this, the Paraguayan stated that the club has a group of captains who use their experience to lead the team.

“Since I was chosen as captain, I sought to share this responsibility. Even to avoid too much pressure, I think it's important to have more leaders. There were six of us, we even had a WhatsApp group of leaders. I gathered those I saw with this characteristic in the squad. I left the group now, but there are 5 left: Garro, Ramalho, Raniele, Hugo Souza, and Maycon. I tried to pass all my experience to them, and they are already prepared, well adapted. It's not easy to play at Corinthians and they did very well.”, said the forward.

Romero spoke about the harmony with Corinthians, praising the story of struggle that both had, and declared his affection for the club, listing how the People's Team helped him in his career and personal life.

“Because of my characteristics and my history. I always worked quietly, respecting everyone. It's a culture in Paraguay to be struggling, underestimated, you see that. We always need to work twice as hard, deliver more than everyone else. And Corinthians is like that. The history of Corinthians is also my history. You need to understand the club's culture to be able to play at Corinthians. And I was concerned about that, to be well not only physically but mentally. That helped me a lot.”

“When you leave Corinthians, you understand the size of the club. You realize where you were playing, it's completely different from other clubs and other leagues. This helps the athlete to be more responsible in professional life, I liked that pressure. I always tried to do my job well at Corinthians, and even when it didn't go as planned, I gave it my all and tried to respect this jersey.”, he concluded.
