Rômulo (24) missed RB Leipzig’s DFB Pokal victory over Eintracht Trier, and now the Brazilian attacker could miss their Bundesliga opening against Borussia Mönchengladbach.
The Saxony club confirmed that due to tendon irritation in his knee, Rômulo was not able to partake in team training as Martin Demichelis prepares for his first Bundesliga game in charge of the Saxony club.
Additionally, Ørjan Nyland (minor foot issue), Assan Ouédraogo (shoulder) and Christoph Baumgartner (rehab) didn’t participate in team training.
Because of Rômulo’s absence, it could mean that young French attacker Tidiam Gomis (20) could retain his place as Leipzig’s focal point in attack. The former Caen player played only 337 minutes across 18 Bundesliga games in 2025/26, and returned one goal.
The loss of Rômulo – who scored nine goals and provided four assists in 30 Bundesliga games last term – is obviously a big one. There’s also a chance that Christopher Nkunku, having returning on loan from Milan, could feature for the Red Bulls.
