Ronald Araujo considers Barcelona exit as Liverpool eye €55m transfer | OneFootball

Barcelona parted ways with Ronald Araujo during the summer transfer window, with the Uruguayan defender joining Liverpool on a season-long loan. He sought an exit after being informed that he was not part of Hansi Flick’s plans for the 2026-27 campaign, and so far, it is a move that has worked out for all parties.

Araujo has been something of a revelation since arriving on Merseyside. He’s predominantly featured as a right-back, and much to Liverpool’s delight, he has seemingly fixed a problem position that the club had a lot of concerns about. The Premier League side’s supporters have also taken to him, and he already has fan favourite status at Anfield.

As per Daily Mail (via Sport), Araujo is loving life at Liverpool, to the point that he is already starting to think about the possibility of joining on a permanent basis.

Araujo, who is still keeping an eye on Barcelona in spite of being at Liverpool, considers the Catalans to be the club of his life, but given how he fell down the pecking order prior to leaving, he recognises that it will be difficult to become a starter again if he returns to the Spotify Camp Nou next summer. But that may not happen anyway, with Liverpool already considering paying the €55m buy option that would allow them to sign the 27-year-old on a permanent basis.

There is no doubt that Araujo is better suited to the physicality of the Premier League, rather than the technicality of La Liga. If he continues his fine form at Liverpool, it makes sense for all parties if he remains at Anfield on a permanent basis, especially if he continues to build a strong rapport from the club’s passionate fanbase.

Barcelona will certainly hope that Liverpool activate Araujo’s buy option next summer, as the €55m would be a big help, knowing that there will be a stark drop in revenue due to being forced to leave the Spotify Camp Nou in order for its roof to be installed. That much money for a player with little to no future at the club would be excellent business, of that there is no doubt.
