Ronald Araujo reveals his feelings about Barcelona after Liverpool win | OneFootball

The defender Ronald Araujo is playing away from FC Barcelona this season as he joined the Premier League side Liverpool during the last summer transfer window.

The Uruguayan has established himself as a starter for Andoni Iraola, and was also in the starting lineup at the right-back position, for the Reds as they began their UEFA Champions League campaign with a match against Atletico Madrid.

Araujo put in a strong performance in this game, helping his team overcome an early deficit and win the game with a 2-1 scoreline. He was key to the first goal scored for his side, as he provided a backheel pass that was finished by Dominik Szoboszlai.

As Mundo Deportivo has reported, he also spoke to the media after winning the Man of the Match award for this game, and Barcelona was naturally one of the topics that came up. The Uruguayan was clear that Hansi Flick’s team is one of the favorites to win the UCL:

“Of course, Barcelona are one of the favourites to win the Champions League. They are flying.”

“I’m following them. I’m very happy for my former teammates. They have a great team. I always support them, and I’m really delighted with what they are experiencing at the moment.”

Despite being one of the captains, Ronald Araujo had seen his importance decline at Barcelona in the last few years. He particularly struggled to break into the starting lineup since the arrival of Hansi Flick on the Blaugrana bench, which is actually understandable keeping in view the form other defenders like Pau Cubarsi, Eric Garcia, and Gerard Martin have shown.

Thus, this loan to Liverpool is a good opportunity for him to show that he still can play at the highest level, and by the looks of it, he is taking full advantage of this opportunity. Going forward, it remains to be seen whether he would return to Barcelona next summer or continue his career away from the Blaugrana club.
