Ronaldinho, 46, is making an unexpected comeback with ambitious Serie C club Ravenna, targeting a 300th career goal, 11 years after his last official match.

Gazzetta dello Sport reports that the 2005 Ballon d’Or was unveiled on a beach in Ravenna, saying he is happy to be among friends, the team can do something good, and any playing time will be decided by the coach.

He arrived on the Adriatic coast by private jet around midday and said he feels in good shape as he links up with the third-tier side.

His club career included Paris Saint-Germain (2001-03), Barcelona (2003-08) and AC Milan (2008-11). He won the World Cup with Brazil in 2002, was capped 97 times and scored 33 goals, and his last official match came in September 2015 for Fluminense.

His return was flagged in June in Miami during the World Cup by club owner Ignazio Cipriani, an Italo-American businessman who took over in 2024. He called the objective romantic, rejected the idea it is a marketing ploy, said the Brazilian would take a stake in the club, and confirmed he will not face Reggiana in Monday’s Serie C opener.

Ravenna finished third in Group B of last season’s Serie C and are targeting a return to Serie B, a division they have not played in since 2008.
