Even at 33, Harry Kane is far from done. The FC Bayern striker has been one of Europe’s most reliable goal scorers for years and has also enjoyed great success in the race for the Golden Boot. Now the Englishman talks about what it means to him to come close to Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in this award.

In an interview with the Spanish newspaper Marca, Kane was asked about the two superstars who have dominated the most prestigious individual awards in world soccer for many years.

For the Bayern striker, simply being compared to Messi and Ronaldo is already a special honor. At the same time, Kane makes it clear that he draws additional motivation from this and wants to continue expanding his personal trophy collection.

“Messi and Ronaldo have dominated soccer for an entire generation. They are two of the greatest players of all time. Just being mentioned in the same breath as them is something special. That’s a goal. As a striker, I’m expected to score goals. The Golden Boot isn’t my only goal, but of course I know that if I win it, I’m also helping the team. All of that simply motivates me. Every time I win one, I want another, and then another, and this time will be no different. Hopefully I’ll be right up there again this season, scoring as many goals as possible in the Bundesliga, and we’ll see if I can win another one.”

Kane always wants more

Particularly noteworthy is Kane’s attitude toward his successes so far. Instead of resting on his laurels, the Bayern star apparently uses his awards as extra motivation.

“Every time I win one, I want another, and then another,” the Englishman says, describing his mindset.

At the same time, Kane doesn’t prioritize personal accolades over team success. For him, the two are directly linked: The more goals he scores, the better Bayern Munich’s chances of winning titles.

It is precisely this combination of individual ambition and team goals that defines Kane’s time in Munich. In the current season, too, the forward aims to score as many goals as possible in the Bundesliga.

Nevertheless, the comparison with Messi and Ronaldo holds special significance for Kane. Both have dominated European soccer for an exceptionally long period and have set the bar high when it comes to individual accolades.

Kane makes no secret of the fact that the prospect of coming close to their individual records and awards motivates him. At the same time, he ranks the two as “two of the greatest players of all time.”

In any case, his next goal is clearly defined: Kane wants to be back in the thick of the race for the Golden Boot.

To do that, he needs one thing above all else: goals. And the Bayern star wants to score as many of them as possible again this Bundesliga season. If he ends up winning another Golden Shoe, Kane would be one step closer to his ultimate goal.
