Rony undergoes medical at CT Rei Pelé as Santos close in on deal | OneFootball

Rony is close to joining Santos after passing medical tests at CT Rei Pelé on Thursday, according to Diario Do Peixe.

Santos are waiting for final documents from Atlético-MG to make the move official. He is expected to sign a three-season contract.

The agreement is for a €3 million fee, around R$ 18 million, plus contractual bonuses. He arrived in São Paulo on Wednesday and reported to the club the next day.

His initial role is planned out wide, covering the vacancy left by Guilherme’s move to the United States.

Talks took time, with Atlético-MG only prepared to release him once two reinforcements had joined, a stance set by Jorge Sampaoli’s staff.

If completed, Rony would be Santos’ third addition of the season. The club have already secured Gabigol on loan from Cruzeiro and finalised a deal that sent Victor Hugo, from Flamengo, to Atlético-MG, bringing Gabriel Menino to Santos. Victor Hugo had been on loan at Santos.

The board continue to seek a midfielder and a left-back, and are also reviewing the defence after recent displays raised internal questions.
