Roony Bardghji was one of Barcelona’s only signings last summer, with the forward joining from Copenhagen for just €2 million.
It was a smart investment for the Catalans, as Bardghji was regarded as one of the most exciting young players coming out of Sweden in recent years.
So far this season, Bardghji has been a bit-part player for Barcelona. But he is excited about the road ahead, notably lauding the club in a recent interview with SPORT.
Born into a Syrian family in Kuwait, Bardghji revealed that his love for Barcelona came from his father, who was a big fan of Lionel Messi.
“I think it’s because of my father. Years before I was born, he started following Barcelona, and when Messi arrived, he fell in love with him. And when I was born, he always made me watch Messi and Barcelona’s matches,” he said.
Although he was born in Kuwait City, Bardghji’s family moved to Sweden soon after, but the road wasn’t easy.
“Starting over with two children, ages six and two, and without a network of contacts wasn’t easy,” his mother, Rola, said.
However, Bardghji added that his parents never stopped believing in him and supporting him in every way they could.

“My father always dreamed that my brother and I would play football, and there are more opportunities in Europe than in the Middle East. That was another reason why we moved as well,” he said.
During his youth career, Bardghji has played for youth teams of Copenhagen, Malmo and Rodeby, before he eventually joined Barcelona last summer.
Talking about his love for Barça, the young winger said, “Playing for Barça has been a dream of mine since I was little. When I was a child, I watched Barça matches with my father. We’ve always been fans of the team.”
“I’m very proud to be here. I worked very hard to get here and I’ve achieved it, but this is just the beginning. My dream is to win every title with Barça: Champions League, La Liga,” he concluded.
Bardghji’s comments come in the midst of reports that suggest Barcelona could be willing to offload the player in the coming summer, for nearly ten times his transfer fee.
With just over 500 minutes of action this season, the Swede hasn’t yet made a telling impact at Barcelona.
