The presidential election in Barcelona is shaping up already, with two candidates, Joan Laporta and Victor Font, currently at loggerheads.

Laporta has already called Font a ‘technocrat’, suggesting that he will run Barcelona using a computer. Font hasn’t held back either.

In a recent interview with Catalunya Radio (h/t Mundo Deportivo), Font has once again talked about Laporta, notably calling him the best and the worst president in the club’s history.

Victor Font on Laporta

During the interview, Font was asked about the best and worst presidents in Barcelona’s history.

In response, the presidential candidate bizarrely compared Laporta to two United States presidents – Donald Trump and JFK.

“The Laporta Trump of recent years is the worst president in Barça’s history. The best? The Laporta Kennedy, from the early days, who would now be bringing motions of no confidence against the current Laporta Trump,” he said.

“The fact that today the person who has the most power at the club, or the second most power, is someone who came from the Franco Foundation, saddens many members. It’s incomprehensible,” he added.

Victor Font went on to downplay Laporta’s success during his second spell, despite admitting that he did the right thing by appointing Hansi Flick as the new manager.

“All presidents have done things well and things poorly. Laporta was right to appoint Flick, but he inherited 80 percent of the first team’s squad value. That’s not to his credit.

“What’s unreasonable is that people are saying things that aren’t true, like that New Era Visionary Group is a world leader in telecommunications,” he said.

It must be noted that Font is very close to Barcelona’s former manager, Xavi Hernandez, who has stirred the pot with his recent comments about how the club is controlled by Alejandro Echevarria.

Font defended Xavi’s comments, stating that the Spaniard is trying to bring the truth to light.

“Xavi is helping to bring the truth to light. He’s not doing it out of spite. It’s a matter of deciding whether you want a former brother-in-law, as Xavi Hernandez said, to have more power than the president.

“The members almost have to choose between Echevarria and Tebas or between Messi and Xavi,” he said.

Finally, Font highlighted some of his own projects and what he would bring to Barcelona if he ends up winning this election on March 15.

“We are making very exciting proposals for the members. The members must choose whether they want to continue with a Barça that is managed like a club from the 80s or 90s, or in a modern way. We want to unite all Barça fans. We want to prioritise the members,” he said.
