City defender Jade Rose says she’s delighted to taste victory in her maiden Manchester derby.
The Canada international played the full 90 minutes of Andrée Jeglertz’s side’s superb 3-0 Barclays Women’s Super League success over Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium.
After starting quickly, the hosts swept Marc Skinner’s team aside before half-time with goals from Rebecca Knaak, Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw and Lauren Hemp giving us a commanding lead at the interval.
Following the break, City dictated the tempo of proceedings and battled to earn a clean sheet as we recorded an eighth WSL win in succession.
For summer signing Rose, she believes the fantastic and gutsy display from the Blues showcased the team we want to be.
“I mean we’re ecstatic [to win],” she declared.
“To get three big points at home to secure top of the league and do it against United, it can’t get any sweeter than that.
“I think it is a statement. This team is here to fight, we’re here to win and we’re not going to accept anything less. I think today’s performance demonstrated that.
“It’s just about focusing on each game as it comes, not getting ahead of ourselves or focusing on what other people are doing, it’s about focusing on how we can perform day in day out. It’s been working so far and we’re going to keep doing that.
“It feels incredible [to win]. I was asked earlier this week what it means to me to play in the derby.
“It’s a difficult question because I’m not from Manchester but being here, seeing the fans, seeing how many people showed up and what it means to them, that shows me how much it means to this city and I was so happy we were able to get the win for City.”
By maintaining a shutout against Manchester United, it represented our second clean sheet in the WSL so far this term.
Contributing to the valiant defensive display, City won 60% of all tackles attempted, recorded seven interceptions and produced 24 clearances.

And Rose says the victory is even more satisfying after keeping Skinner’s side at bay throughout the clash.
She added: “Each time we step on the pitch we try to get a clean sheet, especially as a defender if we won 3-1 I’d walk away from this game thinking about the one goal.
“For the full 90 minutes we have to defend and that’s the mentality our backline approaches every game with, that it’s not good enough until we get a clean sheet.
“Today was super sweet to get the clean sheet.
