Danish manager Sorensen was appointed as Everton boss in April 2022 on a two-year deal, before extending again in 2024.
The 45-year-old enjoyed a fruitful two spells at Danish side Fortuna Hjorring in 2012, winning the Danish Championship in 2014 and 2016.
They also reached the quarter finals in the 2016/17 UEFA Women’s Champions League, and since making the move to Merseyside he has transformed Everton into a solid outfit.
The Dane led Everton to a sixth place in the WSL in his first full season, before an eighth place finish in the Women’s Super League last season.
Kelly Gago found herself on the scoresheet in our first clash with Everton this season as she flicked the ball into the bottom corner with an impressive backheel.
And she continued to pressure the Blues late into the second half as they pushed for another equaliser.
Another player who caused City problems last time out was Toni Payne and there’s no doubt she’ll be a threat on the wing once again.
The Toffee’s forward proved troublesome as her pace looked to expose our backline as she helped to set up the host’s equaliser by crossing the ball into the path of Gago.
We last faced the Merseyside team in November as we played out a hard fought 2-1 victory at Goodison Park.
It saw us go top of the Barclays Women’s Super League table as we recorded a seventh straight WSL win under Andree Jeglertz.
Vivianne Miedema put us ahead after 20 minutes as she split through the Everton defence, before coolly slotting the ball past Emily Ramsey.
Both sides looked dangerous on the attack, with Toni Payne proving a problem on the wing and it wasn’t long before she set up the equaliser for Kelly Gago with five minutes in the first-half to go.
After going in all square at the break, City came out fighting as we searched for a winner and Bunny Shaw rose the highest to connect with Leila Ouahabi’s cross and thundered the ball into the net.
City’s final clash of 2025 saw us face West Ham United in the Subway League Cup quarter-final.
And we signed off in style as we secured our place in the semi-final with a sublime 5-1 win at the Chigwell Construction Stadium.
Quickfire goals from Kerolin and Lauren Hemp gave us a two-goal lead before Riko Ueki pulled one back for the Irons.
That was until Grace Clinton extended our advantage again with a rocket on the cusp of half-time.
With second-half strikes from Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw and Laura Coombs which sealed the success.
It represented the Blues’ 14th match in succession without defeat in all competitions and means we’ll face Chelsea in the last four of the League Cup.
