The striker joined the Blues in a £30 million deal in the summer transfer window following an impressive spell at Ipswich Town.

The 22-year-old, though, has struggled to make an impact at his new club, scoring just two goals in all competitions since moving to Stamford Bridge.

Despite this, Rosenior has been impressed by Delap’s progress since they worked together at Hull City and backs him for success.

“I have been delighted, not just with Liam but with lots of players I’ve worked with throughout my career.

“I like to keep a track of players I have worked with and it was so good to see him perform at a level I believed he was capable of in the Premier League. so it was not a surprise to see him make another move up to Chelsea.

“I am not surprised, but he also knows I will keep pushing him to keep improving and if he can do that, I am confident that he will have an outstanding career.”

On his time playing under Rosenior at Hull, Delap said: “I spent a year at Hull with Liam and his patterns and how he wants to play is the same. It’s helpful because I already know how he wants to play.”

He added: “I think each manager has their differences. It is going to be a very exciting way of playing. We want to be very strong on the ball and dominate games of football. We are all looking forward to it. Hopefully we can show the fans an exciting way of playing.”
