Liam Rosenior has said he is confident that Chelsea will soon start to see the best of Cole Palmer this season.

Palmer has endured a frustrating campaign that has been punctuated by injury problems. Foot, thigh and groin issues have plagued Palmer, but he made a decisive impact from the bench in Wednesday’s win at Napoli.

The 23-year-old came on at half-time with Chelsea trailing and assisted both goals for Joao Pedro, as the Blues fought back to win and claim an automatic place in the last 16.

Rosenior was delighted by his impact and hopes the ‘magnificent’ midfielder can now steer clear of fitness issues.

“There was no way Cole could have started this game and played 60, 70 or 80 minutes,” Rosenior said.

“Napoli have had a difficult time with injuries, so I felt that later in the game we would be stronger, and I felt Cole’s performance was magnificent. Not just this quality, but his pressing and his running for the team.

“He’s had so many games over a long period of time [in the last two seasons], so we need to look after him, and I think the way that he’s managed himself for the last two weeks has been magnificent.

“Hopefully, we can now see the best of him now that he’s fully fit.”
