Chelsea have had a very quiet January by their standards – they’ve not signed anyone for the first team, and in fact the most interesting move they’ve made has actually been a recall.
They brought back Aaron Anselmino from his loan at Borussia Dortmund, which was going well despite his injuries. Is it to play in the first team? Or to send him somewhere else? Neither seems a great idea.
We were hoping to get an answer to that question today from Liam Rosenior, and while the coach gave us some information, it sounds like he’s as much in the dark as the rest of us about the young centre back’s future.

Aaron Anselmino signs for Borussia Dortmund on loan.
“I’m due to have a conversation with Aaron,” the coach said.
“He’s not back yet, on Thursday and Friday [I’ll speak to him]. Hopefully from there we can make his situation clearer. He’s had a great start to the season at Dortmund and I need to have a conversation with him about our future plans.”
Honestly, if the manager was behind this move and planning to use the Argentine in his team, he would have said so. Clearly this is all going on above his head, and he’s just covering for his bosses here. It does stink of a lack of joined up thinking. We just hope it all works out by the end of the window.
You can see Rosenior speaking in the clip embedded here:
The manager spoke about Moises Caicedo, who will be a key man tomorrow, and praised him in quite an unusual way.
Rosenior also answered questions about Cole Palmer. He continues to insist that the attacker is going nowhere, but that’s not going to stop people asking about it.
