It’s a midweek Champions League game for Chelsea this week, and Liam Rosenior has just taken his press conference to preview the game.

The new Blues boss had an update on a lot of the ill and injured players the squad are dealing with at the moment.

“Yeah, so Enzo Fernandez was ill yesterday and missed training. There were signs of it during the game [on Saturday] and that goes to show the type of performance that he put in against Brentford,” Rosenior said.

“Fortunately, Estevao [Willian] has been back in, Jamie Gittens is back in. Who else was it? There’s so many. So yeah, Malo Gusto and Gittens. They’re all involved. Gittens is back, Malo Gusto is back involved, which is great, another outstanding player.

“There’s a few coughs, they’re working really, really hard, like I said. It’s not just at this club, many clubs at the moment at this time of year you’re going to get that and it’s about making sure the players are right for the game tomorrow.”

We’d imagine Enzo Fernandez is given the whole game off, given he’s played a lot recently. Andrey Santos and Moises Caicedo can share minutes in the middle. Gusto has recovered and probably needs some minutes after missing a bit of time, so expect him to start while Reece James rests.

Gittens should also get a good chunk of minutes, probably opposite Estevao if both are considered ready to start.

In other news…

Chelsea’s focus this month seems to be on signing a defender, but according to some that’s not the only position they’re looking to strengthen this year.

Speaking of creative attacking players and their injuries, Palmer is back and playing now, but looks miles off it, both physically and mentally. It’s the first time we’ve really been worried about him since he burst onto the scene at Chelsea.
