Rotherham manager Matt Hamshaw has revealed that Manchester United loanee Dan Gore suffered an injury, while easing fears that the midfielder has been recalled by his parent club.
Gore has done very well at Rotherham since joining the club during the summer transfer window on a season-long loan deal.
He has been outstanding at the heart of Rotherham’s midfield, excelling at shielding the defence and dictating play. Gore has turned out 20 times in League One this term, contributing one assist in that period.
Hamshaw has repeatedly declared his desire to keep Gore until the end of the season amidst suggestions that clubs higher up in League One and in the Championship are looking to lure him away this month.
Rotherham fans were alarmed when Gore was omitted from the squad for the New Year’s Day clash with Peterborough United. Many feared he had been recalled by United ahead of a potential move elsewhere.
However, Hamshaw has revealed that Gore was left out because of an injury he picked up in the previous clash vs. Blackpool. Gore sustained the issue because of an increased workload in the middle of the park after Rotherham were reduced to 10 men.
Hamshaw said [as quoted by the Rotherham Advertiser], “It’s rumour-mill time of the season, isn’t it? He’s got a sore groin.”
“He was feeling it in the last few games and we thought we could get him through it.”
“Then (Jamal) Baptiste gets sent off at Blackpool and Dan and does a bit extra.”
Hamshaw continued, “They’re the bits that people don’t understand. I have to put more bodies on the line, the players do extra work and I’ve ended up with two injuries off the back of that.”
“When things are going against you, they’re going against you. And, at this moment, they are going against us.”
The Rotherham Advertiser notes that Gore will have a scan to determine the full extent of his injury. He is understood to be happy at AESSEAL New York Stadium and would be keen to see out the season there.
