Lincoln City have signed Ryan One on loan from Sheffield United, leaving Matt Hamshaw with a decision to make for his second target.

Rotherham United are moving on from their interest in Ryan One, and have identified a secondary target as they seek survival in League One.

The Sheffield United forward has joined Lincoln City on loan for the rest of the campaign, as the Imps go in search of promotion to the Championship, with the Millers currently 23rd in the table after 27 games.

Matt Hamshaw's side have had an incredibly difficult campaign, and after a decade of promotion and relegation to and from the second tier, they are in real danger of starting 2026/27 in League Two for the first time since 2013.

Nevertheless, Rotherham are making sure that they fight against the drop ahead of the run-in, and are looking at another young Championship striker to bring in on loan to help in that battle. However, there is competition from other League One sides.

Rotherham United identify Swansea City's Bobby Wales as new striker target identified

With One now at Lincoln, Hamshaw has had to move on from the young Scottish forward, and instead his attention has turned to Swansea City's Bobby Wales.

That's according to Anthony Joseph, who has stated that Stevenage, Northampton Town and Rotherham are all showing an interest in the 20-year-old, after it was reported earlier this month that the Swans are open to loaning the striker out.

Huddersfield Town have also held a long-term interest in Wales, as they chase a play-off finish in League One under Liam Manning following Lee Grant's dismissal.

Swansea have high hopes for the former Scotland U19 international, and are planning on bringing him into the first team on a more regular basis next season if he does have success on loan, with Wales already playing four times in the Championship in 2025/26.

Matt Hamshaw must have a successful end to the January transfer window

With Rotherham just two points away from safety, there is no doubting that Hamshaw can turn his side's season around. But, a strong end to January is vital, with a striker crucial to the Millers' hope of survival.

While he struggled for goals at Kilmarnock last season in the Scottish Premiership, a loan to Alloa Athletic in Scotland's third tier is proof of Wales' talent, and he could be a significant addition for the South Yorkshire outfit.

He scored 12 goals and registered four assists in 25 league games, while also picking up another assist in the play-offs. It was a season that earned him his stripes and just a year after returning to Kilmarnock, he would earn his move to Swansea.

Nevertheless, if Rotherham do win the battle for Wales, then he must hit the ground running, with Hamshaw perhaps feeling under pressure at the New York Stadium.
