Ruben Amorim has suggested he will continue utilising Luke Shaw in Lisandro Martinez’s absence for the coming matches.
Since the season began, the Manchester United left-back has been available to start every Premier League fixture in the opening 11 gameweeks, which has come as a major boost for Amorim.

In Amorim’s maiden season, he had Shaw at his disposal for only 12 matches, hence why the board were made to sanction Patrick Dorgu’s arrival in the January window.
Now, Martinez entered the campaign as United’s only long-term absentee. He has been out of action since the start of February with an anterior cruciate ligament injury that he sustained in a 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace.
The Argentine swiftly underwent surgery to correct the problem and has spent the best part of the year working on his rehabilitation. While he did resume training with the first-team a few weeks back, the coaching staff have been reluctant to rush him back into the action and risk him suffering another layoff.
Injuries have plagued Martinez’s Red Devils tenure since he moved from Ajax in 2022, and it’s undoubtedly something that INEOS chiefs will be monitoring when the player is nearing the end of his 2027 contract.

Nonetheless, Amorim has confirmed that whilst Martinez is unlikely to start Monday’s clash with Everton at Old Trafford, he could well make the matchday squad for the first time in nine months.
In turn, Shaw looks set to retain his place deputising for his sidelined teammate.
“I think he’s almost ready to play,” said Amorim of Martinez on Friday, as relayed by UtdDistrict. “I don’t know if he’s going to be in this next game, but his spirit, his way of training, the way he pushed his teammates and the way he plays the game are so important for us, but he needs to be careful
“He has players in his position that are playing really well. That is my responsibility. That is my decision, but I think he’s ready to start going to games.”
