Ruben Amorim has hinted he will pursue January reinforcements to make up for his potentially depleted squad.

Despite Manchester United overseeing a high-spend summer, having shelled out over £200 million on new arrivals, it’s thought the coach’s squad will be bolstered again mid-season.

Amorim to be without three trusted lieutenants during AFCON

That’s because he is preparing to be without three of his most integral starters when Amad Diallo, Bryan Mbeumo and Noussair Mazraoui jet off to represent their respective nations at AFCON.

Mbeumo, who signed in a £70 million deal from Brentford in July, has got off to a flying start in United colours, returning a hugely impressive five goals and one assist in 11 Premier League appearances this term.

Amad has also been vital throughout the side’s newly formed five-game unbeaten streak. Mazraoui, on the other hand, has endured a stop-start campaign due to injury concerns, but is usually a nailed-on starter for Amorim if fully fit.

As well as the trio and their international commitments, Amorim has been dealt two new injury blows to navigate after Harry Maguire and Benjamin Sesko were forced off in the second half of this afternoon’s draw with Tottenham Hotspur.

The latter’s withdrawal left United with just 10 men for the final few minutes and the six added minutes, though, thankfully, Matthijs de Ligt was able to rescue a deserved point when he equalised the scoring at the death.

Amorim has since confirmed that Sesko’s issue is a knee complaint, and he will need to undergo further tests to determine the severity of the setback.

As for Maguire, he featured today for the first time since the Reds’ emphatic win at Anfield, where he picked up a knock and missed the subsequent win over Brighton and Hove Albion.

He returned to the matchday squad for last week’s trip to Nottingham Forest but was an unused substitute.

The centre-half was seen tending to his hamstring in the build-up to his eventual substitution.

When pressed on the forthcoming AFCON tournament and the January window, Amorim told reporters post-match: “Let’s see when the window is open if we can improve the team and try to repair something that happened.

“Until then, we have to take the chance. We’ll see. We have to check everything, we have to check what’s happened with Ben [Sesko].”
