Man Utd boss Ruben Amorim reportedly wants a new attacker in the January transfer window amid Benjamin Sesko’s underwhelming performances.
The Red Devils rescued a late point against Tottenham in a 2-2 draw with Bryan Mbeumo giving Man Utd the lead in north London on 32 minutes.
Thomas Frank’s side struck back late on through Mathys Tel and Richarlison as they looked likely to take all three points – but Matthijs de Ligt scored a header from a corner in the sixth minute of injury time to grab a draw.
Sesko missed a couple of good chances to score for Man Utd earlier in the match, while the Slovenia international – who has only scored two goals this season – saw his afternoon cut short as he was taken off with an injury late on.
And Amorim hinted that Man Utd could strengthen their squad in attack over the January transfer window with Mbeumo set to miss up to a month of action as he jets off on Africa Cup of Nations action in December.
The full extent of Sesko’s injury is unknown but Amorim hinted that he could dip into the transfer market to improve the depth of his attack.
Amorim told reporters: “We have to check everything, we have to check what’s happened with Ben.
“Of course we are going to have a problem there (AFCON), but we already knew, you can prepare in summer, but then you have a lot of players who are not going to play because it’s one game a week, so the manage of that situation is going to be hard, so let’s see when the window is open if we can improve the team and trying to repair something that happened. Until then we have to take the chance. We’ll see.”
And this morning a reliable account of ‘five elite reporters’ on X has claimed that Amorim wants to bring in a new forward before the end of the winter transfer window.
The account wrote on X: ‘Multiple sources now stating Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim wants to bring another attacker in January #mufc.’
After watching Sesko against Tottenham, former Man Utd striker Dimitar Berbatov said on Premier League Productions: “I want to be supportive, I sympathise with his situation.
“Yes, he needed to do better, maybe take the ball more to his left foot so this way it eliminates the defender, but we cannot take away the tackle from Mickey van de Ven as well, great, great tackle.
“Maybe that lack of confidence, playing minutes, it affects a player.
“Then when you get injured out of it, it shows maybe you are not ready to step into the game at full speed.”

After watching Sesko miss chances against Tottenham, former Spurs man Jermaine Defoe added: “I said before the game, for a centre forward… when you’re rested or dropped, whatever it is, you’re not in the team and you’re disappointed, but make sure you’re ready to come on, because you can change the game, you get a moment or a chance and you can change the game.
“I’m not saying it was an easy chance because it was a great tackle, but at the same time, when you go through it’s conviction.
“The first touch always makes the goal, if you take the ball away from the defender then you can go and finish.
“When he watches it back he’ll be disappointed, he didn’t actually have a shot at goal and he ends up getting injured but that’s why you have to be ready to come on and make an impact.”
