Rubén Vargas is sidelined after fresh right knee trouble, the Sevilla winger has been diagnosed with external parameniscitis. He has missed first-team training in recent days.
The club said in a statement that his prognosis is dependent on progress and that he is following a specific treatment plan.
He will not be available for Sunday’s trip to RCD Espanyol at Cornellà-El Prat. His involvement before the international window from 24 September to 6 October will hinge on how he responds. Luis García Plaza must cope without him, with Miguel Sierra and Alfon expected options on the right.
Parameniscitis is inflammation of the tissue around the meniscus, not necessarily implying damage to the cartilage itself. It can relate to overload or a small fissure that allows joint fluid to escape.
No return timeframe has been set, recovery will depend on the severity of inflammation, any oedema, imaging results, response to treatment and club return-to-play criteria. If progress is favourable, a comeback could arrive within a few weeks, but setting a date now would be premature.
Since joining Sevilla on 10 January 2025, the Swiss winger has suffered recurrent muscular problems, particularly in the hamstrings and biceps femoris. Those setbacks have already cost him more than 20 matches, so the priority is a risk-free return.
