Rui Costa is moving to renew Samuel Soares’ Benfica contract, with negotiations advancing and both sides confident of an agreement soon, Record writes.

With the window shut, Benfica’s hierarchy have turned to securing their core squad, with a raft of renewals planned.

Soares, 24, had been hesitant about prolonging a deal that runs to the end of next season, but the start of 2026/27 changed his stance.

He had signalled he could leave during pre-season if he was not first choice. Marco Silva’s faith eased talks, which are now in their final phase.

Samu has claimed the first-choice role, relegating Anatoliy Trubin to the bench. At Benfica since 2013 after leaving U. Tires, he has already made nine appearances this season.
