Rui Mota: Marco Silva ‘is’ a good bet for Benfica | OneFootball

Marco Silva is gaining traction as the leading candidate to take charge of Benfica next season, with former Sporting assistant Rui Mota backing him to succeed José Mourinho at the Luz. Mota believes the Fulham head coach fits the profile the club want.

"He is, clearly, a good bet for Benfica," said Mota, speaking to Record.

"He is a very successful coach. He has been for some time in the best league in the world and he has experience at a very competitive level. Even at Sporting, in a transition after Leonardo Jardim, he was very successful, he won the Cup and had a good Champions League."

"Portugal has very good coaches and he is, clearly, one of them. In terms of preparation, and even status, he is among the best. He likes to take the initiative, with structured football, and he is, clearly, a good bet for Benfica."

One potential obstacle is his Fulham salary, around 5.8 million euros net per season, which can reach 7.5 million with objectives. That figure would require the SAD led by Rui Costa to weigh up any move.
