Rulani Mokwena has registered his first official win since taking over the reins at Algerian giants MC Alger in July 2025.

The South African mentor guided the back-to-back defending champions to a 1-0 victory over Olympique Akbou, thanks to Reda Hailamia’s solitary goal.

Having opened their season with a goalless draw against city rivals USM Alger, MCA moved up to eighth place on the Algeria Ligue 1 standings.

Up next for Mokwena and his charges is a clash against MC Oran, who edged Josef Zinnbauer’s JS Kabylie 1-0 in their last league outing.

Meanwhile, the former Mamelodi Sundowns boss has been tasked with guiding MCA to CAF Champions League glory.

Moreover, Mokwena is expected to retain the Algerian Ligue 1 title, while competing for domestic cup competitions.

The 38-year-old tactician is ready to meet the expectations after a tumultuous spell with Moroccan juggernauts Wydad Athletic club, where he was relieved of his duties before the end of last season.

It remains to be seen whether Mokwena will see out his project in Algiers, with the North African teams known for pulling the trigger prematurely.
