Russell Martin could unveil new Leicester midfield trio as ‘undroppable’ Louis Page stands out | OneFootball

Leicester City host struggling Peterborough United next week, and Russell Martin is weighing a reshaped midfield as an in-form teenager strengthens his claim.

According to LeicesterMercury.co.uk, the Foxes are 14th after seven games with four points from their last two, while Posh are 23rd on five after taking two from a possible 15 since Luke Williams was sacked. Robbie Savage has recently taken charge.

Centre-back is under review after Wout Faes’ exit, meaning at least one change from the Barnsley back four. Ilari Kangasniemi has impressed for Finland Under-21s and awaits his club chance.

Midfield is Leicester’s deepest area and central to a style built on 68% possession and 533 accurate passes per match. Selection there is increasingly competitive.

John Lundstram, 32, has started the last two league games and added organisation after promotion experience with Hull City. Louis Page and Sammy Braybrooke have begun the last five, with Braybrooke shining at times but finding Stockport County and Barnsley tougher.

Will Smallbone has joined on a three-year deal and trained, but his fitness is short of starting level after almost 12 months without a full 90. It is likely that Lundstram, Smallbone and Page will form a trio once he is up to speed, while Conor Chaplin’s return could provide a second-striker option on the right.

Statistically, Page is Leicester’s undroppable, averaging 7.24 from six League One games, with three assists at Stockport, while Braybrooke is next at 7.18. Martin has repeatedly said selections will hinge on opponents.
