Russell v Raskin at Rangers – just what did Nico REALLY do?

So with yet another chaotic 24 hour of Rangers behind us, the latest revelations from Govan are that Nico Raskin has broken trust of his team mates and his manager. It’s Raskin v Russell at Rangers!
The reason for his dropping have been cryptically hinted by Russell Martin, and while it would be dodgy legal territory to make any claims, suggestion and conjecture are feasible.
The reality here is there have been murmurs going back weeks about who was leaking Rangers’ team sheets, and the three big suspects were captain James Tavernier, out of spite that he wasn’t starting, Raskin, out of spite that he wasn’t starting, and Martin himself.
Now, there are reports that teams were leaked by Martin at previous clubs Southampton and Swansea, claims we’ve not been able to verify, but that does hint at history here.
That said, we couldn’t fathom a single reason aside madness for Martin to do it at Ibrox, and while Martin is many things, we’re not quite sure he’s insane.
Which left Tavernier and Raskin. Tav is definitely unhappy at not starting every match, there’s entitlement for you. But we’re not sure he’d be poor enough to leak a team sheet out every match. That doesn’t strike us as very Tavvy. The captain doing that to the manager, his team mates and the club? He’s many things, but Tav doesn’t scream ‘snake’ to us.
Which leaves Raskin. We know he has previous for toxicity – he was axed from the first team squad at Liege after a fall out with then-boss Ronny Deila, and we had to admit we weren’t super keen on taking on a player with a track record of insubordination.
Well, it’s happening again and now at Rangers – so has he been leaking the team sheets? We’ll never truly know, but whatever he did led his manager to state publicly he needs to earn the trust of the coaching staff and the players.
That suggests something very bad went down at Ibrox. Unless Martin is lying, of course, but that would be a BIG porkie to go with, and we’re sure Raskin himself will counter-claim if it’s just false.
Something unsavoury happened inside Ibrox involving Raskin, and it’s led him to lose his place in the squad. He’s allowed to train again with the squad but his manager alleges trust has been broken in all ways.
If that is true, if Raskin really broke Rangers’ trust as a club, we’re not sure we’ll ever see him in the jersey again.
Time will tell.
