Russian footballer Lionel Adams has been found dead in Zvenigorod, a satellite town of Moscow, next to the building where fellow player Timur Magomédov lives. A police source told TASS the body was discovered beside a residential block in the Moscow region.

Telegram channel Shot suggested the athlete may have taken his own life over unrequited love. The footballer’s mother denied that version via the Telegram channel Mash, saying he did not have a partner.

At the end of December, Adams was hospitalised after being beaten and shot in the hip near a restaurant in Zvenigorod. The incident on 27 December reportedly involved at least 10 people, and he later discharged himself.

Adams, born in 1994 to a Nigerian father and Russian mother, came through CSKA’s youth system between 2012 and 2014. In 2017 he spent a season with Spanish side Cerceda.

He later played for Yenisei, Volga and Kamaz. Magomédov is a goalkeeper for Dinamo Majackalá.
