Russian footballer Lionel Adams found dead near Moscow | OneFootball

Russian footballer Lionel Adams, aged 30, has been found dead on the outskirts of Moscow, a police source told TASS.

His body was discovered beside a residential building in the Moscow region, near the home of fellow player Timur Magomedov.

There were suggestions he may have taken his own life because of unrequited love. His mother rejected that, saying he did not have a partner.

The death comes weeks after he was hospitalised following violence in Zvenigorod. On December 27 he was reportedly beaten and shot in the hip near a restaurant during an altercation involving around 10 people, and later discharged himself.

Born in 1994 to a Nigerian father and a Russian mother, Adams came through CSKA Moscow’s youth system between 2012 and 2014, then spent a season with Cerceda in Spain in 2017.

During his career he also played for Yenisei, Volga and Kamaz. Magomedov is a goalkeeper for Dinamo Makhachkala.
