The highly anticipated clash between WSL rivals Manchester City and Arsenal has delivered as advertised on the pitch at the Etihad.
Coming into today's headline clash, the two sides could not be amidst contrasting situations, with City a perfect four from four to open the 2026/27 campaign while Arsenal have looked a shadow of themselves.
But today's offering has already had twists and turns, with England star Alessia Russo and Netherlands ace Kerstin Casparij smacking sensational hits to set the second half alight.
Arsenal took the lead through German starlet Lisa Baum in the 43rd minute, only for her controversial finish to be cancelled out in the first minute of stoppage time by Lauren Hemp.
Then it was Russo's turn to restore the one-goal advantage for Renée Slegers' troops, with the 27-year-old forward dispatching a curling drive into the far corner to beat Ayaka Yamashita in the 49th minute after Arsenal's press forced City to turnover possession in their 18-yard box.
That lead, once again, would not hold.
An equally glorious effort from Casparij (63') brought City back on terms in front of home support.
That strike served as the bedrock for City to ultimately take a 3-2 lead less than ten minutes after Casparij's goal, with Hemp completing her brace on the day before Khadija 'Bunny' Shaw extended City's advantage in the 84th minute to seal all three points on the day.
Can anyone stop this Manchester City side this season!?
