Wrexham enter the final day knowing a win over Middlesbrough does not secure sixth place or a play-off berth. Falling short could deny them Premier League promotion and cost up to £135million.
"If a club misses out on the play-offs, that's a £15million hit on revenue because of the associated ticket income and commercial revenue that's on offer by making it through those additional games." "If they miss out on the play-offs and don't get promoted to the Premier League, then we are talking about missing out on an opportunity worth £120million, and that is pretty significant," he told OLBG.
The only way to guarantee sixth is to beat Middlesbrough by a wider margin than Hull City manage against Norwich City. Wrexham hold a one-goal advantage on goal difference, while Hull have scored one more, the secondary tiebreaker.
A nightmare sees Hull win 2-0 and Wrexham 3-2, leaving them level on points, goal difference and goals scored. Head to head would then decide it, and Hull would edge it after doing the double this season.
If both Wrexham and Hull drop points, Derby County can leapfrog them by bettering their results against Sheffield United. "Wrexham are already spending much more than they earn as a club, and spending like that requires them to be much higher up the pyramid."
