Phil Parkinson’s Wrexham are set to strengthen their squad, with a deal for Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson moving closer.
Sky Sports reports that Wrexham have agreed an £8m fee for the 26-year-old, who is travelling for a medical.
The Dragons finished seventh last season, missing the Championship play-offs by two points as they look to build on that progress.
Patterson established himself at his boyhood club in 2021/22, helping secure promotion to the Championship under Alex Neil.
After their return to the top flight for the first time in eight seasons, he soon lost his starting role. Régis Le Bris signed Dutch goalkeeper Robin Roefs, who quickly became first choice ahead of Patterson.
If the move is confirmed, Patterson is likely to be Wrexham’s new No.1 for their Championship opener against Cardiff next Monday. It would be their third permanent signing of the summer as they prepare for a second successive Championship campaign.
