Ryan Reynolds’ Wrexham ‘make’ £8.1m bid for Henrik Falchener | OneFootball

Wrexham are pursuing a deal for Viking Stavanger centre-back Henrik Falchener. According to The Athletic, two bids have been rejected, the latest worth £8.1m including bonuses, which would be a club-record fee.

Viking plan to keep the 23-year-old for their Champions League final qualifying tie with Dinamo Zagreb, first leg in Zagreb on Tuesday, 18 August, second leg in Stavanger on Wednesday, 26 August. If Viking win the tie, they will play in the 2026/27 UEFA Champions League.

Falchener joined from second-tier Egersunds for €250,000 in January 2025. The six ft 4in defender has two Norway caps and was named in Stale Solbakken’s 26-man World Cup squad this summer.

Wrexham finished seventh on their Championship return, two points behind sixth-placed Hull City who won the play-offs. Recruitment has been measured, with Danny Imray signed for £5.1m, Ben Whiteman for £3m and goalkeeper Anthony Patterson for £8m. A move for Falchener would take their centre-back group to eight, with Conor Coady earmarked for a loan.

"Last year we arrived in the Championship and had a few months to build an entire Championship roster," Ryan Reynolds said, speaking to Sports Illustrated.

"Phil, Michael (Williamson) and Shaun (Harvey) did a great job, and we came up just short of the play-offs. This is a different brief this season," Reynolds added.

"Like a home renovation show... this episode is about making the kitchen work better rather than doing a whole-house renovation."
