Ryan Reynolds has settled into a distinctive Wrexham matchday routine, from flying in at short notice to a family superstition. He was at the Racecourse Ground last Friday as the Red Dragons knocked Nottingham Forest out of the FA Cup on penalties.
"Blake and the girls are the engine for this. The girls always remind me, 'Dad, grab some of the pitch when you walk across it again'." He said this on the RobRyanRed Wrexham fan podcast.
On flying visits he departs New York on matchday, arriving by charter into Hawarden Airport before heading straight to the ground. He is often with Rob McElhenney, wife Blake Lively is a regular, and his mum Tammy made her first trip for the Forest tie.
Before kick-off he sometimes stops at the Turf pub to chat with supporters and buy a round. He may see the players but leaves decisions to the manager, then greets fans and visits the autism-friendly quiet zone.
He is known to lift a small piece of the Racecourse turf to take home, a superstition he credits to family. "But I also recognise that the Racecourse Ground is in certain senses a holy ground. So I like to bring a piece of that home every time."
Reynolds watches from the owners' box in the Macron Stand, which even has a urinal plaque for McElhenney's 45th birthday. Wrexham are in the Championship for the first time in 43 years and are chasing a fourth consecutive promotion. Four festive wins lifted them to ninth, one point off the play-offs, and he has already visited four times this season, with Parkinson welcoming his support.
