Wrexham are planning another active summer to reinforce key areas after narrowly missing the Championship play-offs. According to Wales Online, the club want to build on a first second-tier season in 43 years.

The Reds finished two points behind Hull City after a 2-2 draw with Middlesbrough on the final day. With 19 signings made last summer, a full rebuild is not anticipated.

In goal, Arthur Okonkwo and Danny Ward shared duties and an uncontested number one may be targeted. The newly committed Nigeria international could also be trusted again after an encouraging campaign. Both are into their final 12 months, while third-choice Callum Burton could depart after two League Cup outings.

Central defence looks stocked with Callum Doyle, Dan Scarr, captain Dom Hyam, Max Cleworth and Zak Vyner. Width is thin with Issa Kabore’s loan over, so at least three wing-backs are needed, and a return for the Manchester City loanee, on loan or permanently, would make sense.

Interest could also be revisited in Ireland international Festy Ebosele and Portsmouth’s Terry Devlin. Liberato Cacace will be back on the left after his World Cup stint with New Zealand, freeing George Thomason to cover or move into midfield.

Matty James remains influential but turns 35 this summer, so a successor is sought. Harry Winks fits the profile, carries recent Premier League promotion experience with Leicester City and would be available following their drop to League One.

Further forward, Wrexham are tracking Dunkerque playmaker Enzo Bardeli, set to be a free agent after 10 goals and seven assists. Up front, they must ease the strain on Kiefer Moore and Sam Smith, and a renewed move for Ibrahim Diabate could follow if Alaves decline a permanent deal from GAIS.
