Full-back Maciej Rybus has been dropped from the Polish national team after a signing a contract with Russian side Spartak Moscow. Coach Czesław Michniewicz announced to the player that he would not be considered for selection for either September’s Nations League matches against Netherlands and Wales, or the 2022 World Cup.

The PZPN issued a statement on Monday afternoon, declaring their decision.

The coach of the Polish national team, Czesław Michniewicz, talked to Maciej Rybus, who was currently staying in Poland, after the training camp of the national team ended last week.

“The coach informed the player that, due to his current club situation, he would not be called up for the September training camp of the national team and would not be taken into account for the team that would go to the world championship in Qatar, when determining the composition of the team.”

32-year-old Rybus made his international debut in 2009 against Romania, and was a part of the squad which took part in the 2012 European Championships, held on home soil. He was also selected for both the 2018 World Cup and Euro 2020 squads, but missed out on Poland’s run to the quarter finals of Euro 2016 through injury.

His last appearance for the national team came in December 2021, playing 90 minutes in the 4-1 World Cup qualification victory over Andorra.

Rybus is now at his third club in Russia, having played more than 100 times for both Terek Grozny and Lokomotiv Moscow. He has opted to stay in the country, rather than relocate to the west, due to his Russian wife and children being settled in the country.
