Rangers defender John Souttar continues to impress for club and country after helping Scotland win 2-1 in Poland in the Nations League last night.

The Gers defender has been immense under Philippe Clement this season, and he has carried his rich vein of form for his country.

Souttar was brilliant in Scotland’s 1-0 win over Croatia last week, and the Rangers centre-back came up with another solid defensive performance.

The 28-year-old struggled with his injuries at Ibrox when he first joined, but no one ever questioned his quality.

He has grown into a true leader at the back, and ex-Rangers midfielder Barry Ferguson recently claimed he should be given the captain’s armband in place of James Tavernier.

Rangers defender John Souttar shines for Scotland yet again

Souttar provided the cross for Andy Robertson’s winner, and the Daily Record described it as “sensational”.

The Gers defender also made a “stunning” block on the line. The Scottish newspaper gave him an 8/10 rating.

They wrote: “Another excellent display. Produced a stunning block on the line when Gordon was beaten. Sensational cross at end for Robertson’s winner.”

The Scottish Daily Mail also hailed his cross for Robertson as “sumptuous” and described his block to deny Jakub Kaminski as “sensational”. They also gave him an 8/10 rating.

John Souttar’s stats for Scotland vs Poland

It won’t be an exaggeration to say that Souttar is in form for club and country.

He made three clearances against Poland, including one off the line and blocked two efforts. He also won two aerial duels and created one big chance that led to the goal.

Rangers have fallen behind Celtic and Aberdeen in the 2024/25 Scottish Premiership title race, and they need to improve their results.
