Saibari as Musiala’s replacement? Effenberg voices explosive suspicion about Bayern | OneFootball

Ismael Saibari joined FC Bayern from PSV Eindhoven this summer for around 50 million euros. The record champions had initially been targeting a player primarily for the left wing, but ended up securing a versatile player. 

Saibari can fill several roles in midfield and can even be deployed as a sort of center forward. This is particularly interesting because there are already several players available in the center of the field.

That’s why Stefan Effenberg, an analyst for Sport1 among other outlets, has voiced a suspicion—one that has to do with Jamal Musiala and his health.

Effenberg: Saibari Deal Also Due to Musiala

On Sport1’s “Doppelpass,” the former Bayern pro explained that, despite all his quality, he couldn’t fully understand the Saibari transfer at first. “It puts Saibari’s transfer in a different light. Why are they signing this player? Sure, he has the qualities to help Bayern Munich,” Effenberg said by way of introduction.

Then he posed the question that had been on his mind: “But I asked myself, why? He’s coming for 50 million euros, but Musiala is getting fitter and the team has more options again. They also have Gnabry; they can play Bischof there, and Karl too. So why this Saibari transfer?”

Effenberg went on to express his suspicion that Saibari was signed because it was uncertain what would happen with Musiala. “I think it’s becoming clearer now. I believe that’s one reason. In general, I hope Jamal gets back to his old self and that the whole thing can be forgotten. But of course, he’ll also be under even closer scrutiny at the stadium,” said Effenberg.

After two collapses on the field, Musiala announced that he suffers from blackouts and is under strict medical supervision. The FC Bayern forward requires medication and treatment. As things stand now, however, nothing stands in the way of him continuing his career.
