Sam Johnstone has joined Celtic on a season-long loan after being deemed surplus to requirements at Wolves by Cesar Peixoto. The 33-year-old will spend the campaign with the Scottish champions.

Technical director Matt Jackson said the club set out to revamp the goalkeeping department this summer, describing the switch as a major opportunity at a big club, noting that goalkeepers rarely rotate which can be frustrating, and backing Johnstone to rediscover his top levels with regular football.

Johnstone has made 27 appearances since arriving from Crystal Palace for £10 million two years ago, but he spent much of the second half of last season on the bench.

Wolves have brought in Joao Virginia and John Ruddy to support No.1 Jose Sa for the season ahead, and Johnstone was told he was free to find a new club.

Dan Bentley has moved to Coventry as part of the reshaped goalkeeping group.
