Nottingham Forest midfielder Samba Sow has opened up on his frustrations on injuries, with the player’s stint at the City Ground having been plagued with various fitness setbacks.
The Malian ball winner made just his seventh appearance of the season for Chris Hughton’s side against Reading last weekend as he came off the bench – with a knee problem and more recently a hamstring injury disrupting his progress to date.
Now the 31-year-old is fully focused on building up his match fitness as he looks to make up for lost time with the Reds in what has been a tough start to the campaign for the Championship outfit.
Speaking to Nottinghamshire Live about his injury problems, Sow had this to say:
“I’m feeling good. I’m just trying to get back to my best, to get fit and to help the team as well, because we need everybody now, in this situation.
“I was so frustrated. I had my knee problem last year, then I came back from that and had my hamstring injury.
“But it is what it is. I have to accept that and just work harder to give everything I have on the pitch.
“The knee is okay now. I feel good about my knee now.
“I can keep training every time. It was difficult last year, but I can keep training now.
“I feel good, but, for sure, I need longer and more games to be fully fit.”
Since arriving at the City Ground back in the summer of 2019, Sow has gone onto make just over 30 appearances for Forest and has a contract which ties him to the club until the summer of next year.
The Verdict
Sow’s return will add a bit more bite in midfield for Forest and they could certainly use his commanding presence in the centre of the park after their recent poor run of form.
The midfielder’s main aim for the rest of the season will be to earn a new deal at the City Ground, with his current one having less than a year to run.
Assuming the player wishes to stay the course with Forest past the current season, he should be looking to impress Hughton at every opportunity, with the new manager offering something of a clean slate for all of his players after taking over from Sabri Lamouchi.
Given their recent lack of form and confidence, I wouldn’t be shocked at all if Sow makes his way back into the starting eleven over the next few weeks as Hughton seeks to find that winning formula.
