Le Mans and Brest drew 2-2 at Stade Marie-Marvingt, both beginning their Ligue 1 campaigns with a point that places Brest fourth and Le Mans fifth.

Romain Del Castillo opened the scoring in the 31st minute, slotting low after a break led by Kamory Doumbia. Dame Gueye levelled in the second minute of first half stoppage time from Louis Mafouta's lay-off.

After the restart, Mafouta swept Le Mans ahead (55.) from Adil Bourabaa's pass on another fast break, before Doumbia jabbed in the equaliser following a corner (62.).

Nicolas Kocik made four saves as Brest kept pressing. The visitors piled up 26 attempts and 10 corners. Le Mans produced eight attempts and worked Egil Selvik five times.

Late changes could not tilt it either way, with Ludovic Ajorque heading chances wide or straight at Kocik in the closing stages. Seven minutes of second half stoppage time were indicated.

Next, Le Mans visit Rennes. Brest host Toulouse.
