According to O Jogo, Samu travelled to Spain on Thursday morning for a second medical opinion after the serious injury sustained against Sporting.
He will, in any case, schedule surgery soon, deemed unavoidable, to repair a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.
The injury occurred close to half-time in the Sporting match and forced his substitution.
Tests carried out on Tuesday confirmed the worst, ending the Spanish forward’s season abruptly.
The lay-off is unlikely to be shorter than six months, and his dream of representing Spain at the 2026 World Cup has disappeared.
