Samuel Lino has been named the Copa Libertadores player of the round after scoring the goal that sent Flamengo past Cruzeiro at the Maracanã.
According to Coluna Do Fla, the forward received the accolade after his decisive strike. He struck in the second half of the 2-1 win, confirming Flamengo’s passage.
He re-established the Rubro-Negro’s lead when the visitors had been on top. That moment doubled as a personal response after criticism in the first leg, when Arroyo beat him before Cruzeiro scored at the Mineirão.
On the decisive move, Pedro released him in space. Lino drove at the defence, outpaced William and fired past goalkeeper Otávio.
Post-match, Lino said it felt like his turn to have the last laugh, adding that leaving an opponent on the turf mattered less than sealing qualification.
With the win, Flamengo are into the quarter-finals. They await the winners of Independiente del Valle (EQU) and Tolima (COL), who meet on Tuesday 25.
In the first leg, Lucas Paquetá took the same award after his equaliser at the Mineirão. For the return, Pedro and Arrascaeta were also shortlisted, but Lino prevailed.
