Samuel Lino has spoken about the emotional strain of Flamengo’s relentless schedule, saying the club’s pursuit of silverware cut short players’ rest.

"Playing for Flamengo is everything, it brings huge emotion and adrenaline. Sometimes you arrive and think, I want to take a break. We wanted to enjoy the days we had because we did not even have a month off, which is right, others in Brazil did not either," he told GE.

"When you have many games and are fighting for titles the emotional load is very strong. It is not easy for the body to cope and pitches in Brazil are not easy. This period has been difficult because of physical preparation, sometimes you notice it in matches, but we are improving and soon Flamengo will be flying."

Lino joined in July 2025 and made an immediate impact, although some supporters later booed him.

Despite the criticism, he scored the goal that clinched last year’s Brasileirão. Flamengo also lifted five other trophies last season and only rested at the end of December.

The late finish to 2025 and early restart in 2026 contributed to a run of one win in eight at the start of the campaign, and Lino maintained it was only a turbulent spell the team had overcome.

With Lino available, Flamengo visit Lanús on Thursday 19 in Argentina for the Recopa Sudamericana first leg, kicking off at 21:30 Brasília time.
