The San Jose Earthquakes have completed the sale of defender Francisco Calvo to Turkish Super Lig side Konyaspor, the club announced Thursday.
Though the two parties didn't disclose the fee, 90min understands Konyaspor have only paid a nominal price for Calvo's services.
Calvo's departure brings an end to a four-and-a-half-year stay in Major League Soccer, with the 29-year-old arriving in San Jose at the start of the 2022 season following spells with the Chicago Fire and Minnesota United.
A 74-time Costa Rica international, Calvo made 13 appearances for the Quakes, scoring twice. Across his MLS career, the center-back played 135 times, scoring 12 goals and assisting another seven.
“After speaking with Francisco and learning of his aspirations as a person and as a player, this opportunity makes sense for both sides,” Earthquakes general manager Chris Leitch said in a club press release. “We appreciate his efforts this year and wish him well in Turkey.”
