Santiago Sosa arrival pushes Vasco to foreign-player limit | OneFootball

According to PaponaColina, Vasco are set to finalise the signing of Argentine midfielder Santiago Sosa, formerly Racing captain. His arrival would take the professional squad to nine foreign-born players, the maximum permitted on matchday lists in the Campeonato Brasileiro.

CBF rules allow coach Pedro Emanuel to select all nine. If further international deals are completed this window, he would have to omit one or more foreigners each round.

The situation puts pressure on director Admar Lopes to speed up exits or moves for fringe players.

Foreigners form the spine of the XI, with Carlos Cuesta, Andrés Gómez and Claudio Spinelli among the standouts. Sosa is expected to reinforce the holding midfield.

Nuno Moreira, Rojas and Puma Rodríguez remain heavily used for their versatility. By contrast, centre-back Alan Saldivia and forward Marino Hinestroza are on the fringes and attracting enquiries.

Vasco are open to negotiating Saldivia, who rejected interest from Huracán, but want a defensive replacement before letting him go. Given the significant outlay on Hinestroza at the start of the season, a simple loan without adequate reimbursement is being dismissed.

The club are pursuing sustainable exits while negotiating with Facundo Colidio of River Plate and monitoring Brian Rodríguez of América-MX. From 2024, the CBF raised the per-match cap from seven to nine across the league and Copa do Brasil, and clubs may employ unlimited foreigners but must trim matchday squads to meet the limit.
