Santiago Sosa arrived at Galeão airport in the early hours of Monday to sign for Vasco, and has offered to be available for a potential debut against Santos at São Januário in the 23rd round of the Campeonato Brasileiro.
According to Globo.com, the 27-year-old Argentine will undergo medical tests on Monday before finalising his contract.
Sosa joined Racing in 2024 and won the Copa Sudamericana. In 2025 he captained the team during a strong Copa Libertadores campaign that ended in the semi-finals. He can play as a defensive midfielder or centre-back.
He said he is delighted to join a big Brazilian club and hopes the paperwork is resolved quickly so he can train with his new team-mates. He considers himself prepared to play and wants to help on Sunday, if cleared.
The deal is valued at about US$7 million, roughly R$35.5 million at current rates, and negotiations had been advanced for more than a week. He even bid farewell to Racing supporters before the match against Tigre on 1 August.
Racing demanded around half the fee up front, sought financial guarantees and protection against any late instalments, which delayed completion. Vasco addressed those conditions and reached an agreement for his release.
