Santos and São Paulo players accused referee João Vitor Gobi of disrespect during Saturday’s sixth-round Paulistão derby at Morumbis. According to Diario Do Peixe, Santos midfielder Zé Rafael said Gobi insulted left-back Vinicius Lira.
Speaking at half-time, Zé Rafael alleged the official swore at Lira and told him to get lost, then demanded respect from the players.
He said this was the second time Gobi had taken charge of Santos and failed to show respect to their squad, and called for action to be taken. He added that players are punished when they protest and said he wanted to see what would happen to the referee.
São Paulo centre-back Sabino backed that account, saying Brazilian officials ask for respect yet do not offer it. He recalled a previous derby against Corinthians in which Gobi allegedly disrespected team-mate Alan Franco, and said the handling of this match was disrespectful towards the players.
It was the second Santos match Gobi has refereed this year, after overseeing their 1-0 defeat to Palmeiras at Arena Barueri on 14 January in the second round.
