Santos have offered Miguelito a new contract, but the Bolivian is likely to wait until the mid-year window before replying, according to Diario Do Peixe. Talks continue, yet his camp view the terms as short of ideal and question delivery of the board’s sporting plan.
They see instability after a new coaching staff arrived and do not want an uncertain deal. The preference is to refine the plan, or renew with a view to a future sale, while monitoring the market. The World Cup pause could prove decisive.
Miguelito has impressed with Bolivia and almost secured a World Cup place with La Verde, and he is drawing interest at home and abroad.
His contract runs to 24 April 2027, so from October he could sign a pre-contract. He earned chances under Juan Pablo Vojvoda but has featured less with Cuca. This season he has 15 appearances and one assist, setting up a goal against Velo Clube in the Paulistão, and has also featured in the Brasileirão, Copa do Brasil and Sul-Americana.
Of last year’s loanees, he was the only player recalled to CT Rei Pelé. He spent that year at América-MG, posting 5 assists and 7 goals in 25 Série B games. A proposed move to Dynamo Kyiv fell through over visa issues amid war and an airport closure.
At Santos since 2018 after impressing in an under-15 friendly, FIFA rules on minors delayed any move, so he played only unofficial tournaments until adulthood. He debuted in a 4-1 league win over Juventude at Vila Belmiro on 10 October 2022 under interim Orlando Ribeiro and now has 33 senior appearances.
