Santos call up academy duo João Alencar and Davi Fernandes for Grêmio trip | OneFootball

Santos have named academy duo João Alencar and Davi Fernandes in the squad to face Grêmio on Saturday at 19:00 Brasília time at the Arena do Grêmio, in the 17th round of the Campeonato Brasileiro. According to Diario Do Peixe, both are in Cuca’s group.

Centre-back João Alencar offers cover at right-back amid fitness issues. Though primarily a defender, he can also operate wide on the left.

For Davi Fernandes, this is a first senior call-up. A forward by trade, he has been used as a wing-back or right-back for the youth side.

He signed his first professional deal in early May and is viewed internally as a prospect monitored by the first-team staff. Since March two Portuguese top-flight clubs have shown interest. He turns 18 in July and is in under-20 year one.

At CT Rei Pelé, coordinator Léo Bastos has given positive feedback, and Davi regularly trains with the seniors to complete Cuca’s sessions.

Santos are without Benjamín Rollheiser, muscle problem, and Álvaro Barreal, suspended. Neymar, João Schmidt, Gabriel Menino and Thaciano also remain in the medical department.
