According to Diario Do Peixe, Genoa have improved their proposal and Santos are close to loaning Robinho Jr, with an option to buy. The 18-year-old has been in Italy this week handling passport and residency paperwork.
Santos initially rejected terms that split his wages. Genoa now accept paying 100% of his salary, with a fixed buy option of about 8 million euros, roughly R$ 48 million.
The forward had interest from Sevilla and Rayo Vallecano. He also has ties to Italy from his father Robinho’s spell at Milan.
Robinho Jr has not played for more than a month. His last outing was as a substitute in the 4-1 win over UCV of Venezuela at Vila Belmiro, the second leg of the Copa Sudamericana play-off, on 21 July.
He has 12 appearances this year, five in the Paulistão, four in the Brasileiro and three in the Sudamericana.
The teenager briefly asked to be listed as Juninho, then reverted to Robinho Jr, a switch made for a July friendly against União São João at the Pacaembu in which he scored a penalty.
He was handed the number seven on promotion and is still eligible for two more years at under-20 level. Across his senior career he has 27 games and one assist, and his contract runs to 30 March 2031.
